Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, confirmed that the government would like to encourage small and micro-enterprises (SMEs) to increase production capacity and create new jobs.
The minister said in a statement from the Ministry of Finance on Saturday that the participation of small and micro-enterprises has been maximized over the past three years to meet the needs of government agencies, explaining that small and micro-enterprises have 75.8% of government contracts gained during fiscal year (FY) 2020/21, compared to 69.6% in FY 2018/19.
He added that the purpose of the Government Contracts Act is to create an environment for businesses and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to compete in the contractual opportunities offered by public authorities, pointing out that there are other laws that regulate business. related to government contracts, such as Law No. 5 of 2015 working on the development of the industrial sector in Egypt.
Maait notes that the General Authority for Public Services of the Ministry of Finance monitors public procurement via the electronic portal, insofar as the administrative bodies comply with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act.
The statement stated that the Ministry has issued a guideline for owners of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, who believe in the role these projects play in the process of comprehensive and sustainable development, noting that this guide has been made available on the website of the Ministry to inform the owners of these projects of the benefits granted to them when they enter into contracts with the administrative authorities in accordance with the law governing public procurement.
